What is the MEXT University Recommended Scholarship?
MEXT stands for the Ministry of Education, sports, culture, science, and Technology.
The MEXT University Recommended Scholarship is granted to international students by Japanese universities, and it is recommended by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).
Scholarship Duration
Master’s Program = October, 2024 – September, 2026 (2 years)
Doctoral Program = October, 2024 – September, 2027 (3 years)
MEXT (UR) Scholarship Benefits
All students will receive:
- A monthly stipend.
- The exact stipend amount for 2024 is yet to be determined. For reference, the monthly stipends in 2023 were:
– 144,000 yen/month for Master’s students
– 145,000 yen/month for Doctoral students - Round-trip airfare tickets are provided.
- Enrollment and tuition fees will be waived.

Eligibility Criteria
- Those who have completed a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply.
- An applicant should have a minimum CGPA of 2.30.
- Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1989.

English Language Proficiency
You must meet one of the following language proficiency requirements:
Have a B2 level or higher on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale (e.g., TOEFL iBT 72 or higher, IELTS 5.5 or higher).
Or have successfully completed a prior educational program where the primary language of instruction was English.
